Adult children and their aging elderly?
Is the ratio of adult children to elderly parents declining today?
I’ve heard of all these woman caregivers taking care of their elderly parents too but I don’t know what the ratio might be…..
Need some help if anyone has any ideas why it’s declining….Thanks!
Yeah, but hasn’t anyone heard of the "sandwich generation?" More elderly are living longer and more families are taking care of them by not sending them to nursing homes because of the economy. But then again, this only puts the same strain on the family’s household…

To the contrary..the rate is rising as folk live longer
I don’t think the ratio is declining. Society is much more mobile now and fewer and fewer people are living near their parents.
Less children are taking care of their parents. Many families have both people working and they arent able to be full time caregivers. They may not live close to their parents so it would not be possible to care for them.
You will see an increase in the elderly compared to the youth, because the baby boomers are upon you.. two towns in my area just turned down proposals for new long term care facilities (nursing homes) i don’t know where they are going to put us in years to come, tents i guess. We’ll see what happens, hope i don’t live long enough for that and the truth be told so do they!
