Hi, I usually use self tanner to keep myself looking nice and tan because it’s better for my skin. but i always need help putting it on my back and i usually don’t have a friend available to do it so half the time im tan and half the time is pale. i wont do tanning beds. but do you think it’s ok to just tan in the summer so i don’t have to buy self tanner or bug a friend to help me with my back? i’m just really concerned about skin health and premature aging, but i’ve never gotten a burn in my life and i tan really well. let me know, thanks
Premature Aging Archives
Hello,
I’m 21 years old and I think I may have some kind of premature aging disorder.
I’ve had acne since my teens and it’s better now but I still have some pustules, red marks and scars.
I wear a stable high uva protecting sunscreen and my face is always tans, even though I’m never in the sun for very long, I burn through my clothes. I did not have this problem when I was younger.
My skin, has very little volume to it. the skin around my eyes is like tissue paper, very thin with squint lines, and bags, and every little purple vein is visible,
I have nasolabial folds and frown lines, flat cheeks, and some hollowness in some areas. My face looks kind of bony. I also have large pores, and some sagging along the sides of my mouth and under my chin.
My face just doesn’t have a soft youthful look that it should.
I finally got a dermatologist to order some blood test and she checked for:
HIV
Blood pressure
Kidney function
Thyroid
and they all came back normal.
Should I have more tests done and if so what ones?
Does anyone know what could be wrong with my skin?
I was thinking about asking my primary doctor to check my hormones, adrenal, endocrine, and vitamin levels
because I head problems with these can cause the skin to age but I’m not sure what else to check for.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replys!
Hi Kelly C,
This is the 1st dermatologist I’ve been to out of 3 that agreed to run some blood tests. I just thought it if I knew what specific test to ask for it mght be easier.
Maybe I should be looking though?
Besides putting on sunblock lotion? (And staying indoors is not an option!)
I am 17 years old and one thing I’ll tell you is that I love the sun. During the summer, I love to lay out, and during the fall and winter, I use indoor tanning beds. Please, don’t give me the whole "UV rays are bad" talk. I know it’s bad, but currently, I am very worried about my face. My skin is acne-prone and I use an oil-free concealer and an Almay bronzer in the shade of Sunkissed (it’s oil-free and the only bronzer that doesn’t clog my pores.) Lately, I’ve been noticing that my under eyes look as if they have wrinkles. Overall, people think I am about 20-21 years old, even though I’m 17. Yeah, sometimes it’s nice to look older, but right now, I don’t find it as a compliment. I don’t want to look 30 when I’m 20. What products should I use to prevent premature aging? I would like something to tighten my skin (it seems a little flabby to me) and to overall change my complexion. When I go tanning indoors, should I maybe put SPF on my face to block off the UV rays? Will my face not get tan then? I would also like to know if I should be using specific makeup that will keep my skin looking younger, longer. Please help me out. Thanks!
6 yrs ago i would tan 3-5x week for 20 min for a year or less (i know horrible) but laid off because of the risks involved. I want to get a lil color so I was thinking of going 2x a week for 5 min, and use a tanning excellorator.
Skin History….
The only case of skin cancer in my family was my grandfather (a police office) who got it on his arm by his patrol car’s window, which was simpy cut off and never returned. As far as premature aging goes…my mother smokes so not a good comparison, but my aunt who moderately tans outdoors has aged well, and I do take good care of my skin.
because you are pulling on your eye .
My cat is male, only 9 months old, and I took him to a clinic yesterday and they weighed him and said he is 14 lbs, is very large, and has significant tarter on his teeth, therefore he has to be at least 3 years old!
But he is not 3 years old. I got him from a friend at 7 wks old and he was with all his little brothers and sisters at the same age. I have to admit that he is very large for a 9 month old, especially compared to other small 9 month old kittens i’ve seen.
What do you think this could be? Based on what the clinic said Could he have an animal case of Werner Syndrome? Do animals get that?
I’m worried.
FYI: Werner’s Syndrom is the premature aging disease. If you’ve seen the movie Jack, with Robin Williams, that is what he had.
I’ve been using Proactiv for about two months, and have actually felt that it makes my skin look younger. However I’ve been hearing rumors that it causes fine lines, premature aging, and several other problems. Is this true?
I’d love a professional opinion. When I got a facial a few weeks ago, the aesthetician who did it actually said Proactiv was a good skin care product, and that she had other clients who used it. So if you know a lot about skin care or this product, I’d appreciate your input.
People who can speak from personal experience would be great, too.
I have read recently that benzoyl peroxide causes free radicals which in turn causes premature aging of the skin. Does anyone know if this is true? The sites where I read this seemed a little sketchy and seemed to be making this claim so that people will buy their anti-acne products. I have suffered from acne since I was 12 (I’m 23) and have been using benzoyl peroxide products for years. I don’t want to have prematurely aged skin! I’m concerned about this.
Also, I use an SPF facial moisturizer daily… will this help counteract the possible premature aging effects?
So here’s the deal…At least 3 years of my life were spend baking in the sun ( in my teens). I’m under 20 years old, the most damage that’s visable I have is freckles. Assuming that I have tons of underlying damage that has not yet shown up, can I reverse this unseen damage before it pops up in my 20’s and 30’s? So, I know you can’t reverse the aging process. but can you reverse premature aging when you are still quite youthful?I would love to read some articles!
What plays a bigger role in premature aging: genes or lifestyle factors such as smoking and tanning?
My friend is 24. She said since last May- she began to lose the elastic of her skin. Now her skin is loose and not as firm as it was before. The flesh in her arms and legs began to sag a bit and now the flesh is looser and not as firm as it was before (she’s not fat or overweight- this is just a sign of aging) Now when she smiles- she has crow’s feet at the corner of her eyes (crow’s feet are wrinkles) Is this premature aging or is this normal for her age? I heard that many people don’t experience this until they’re in their mid-30’s.
Is this premature aging or is it just right for her age? I heard many other people don’t experience this until they’re in their mid 30’s
I’m almost 18 and I feel as though I have lots of wrinkles. They are "expression lines" but I feel like they look very deep. i’ve always worn sunscreen so I know it isn’t sun damage. I look at my friends and theirs arent nearly as deep as mine. Is this normal? Does anyone else have these?
Most people think I’m 18-??, I have slight wrinkles under my eyes and bags and discoloration
people have let me go into a casino, i can buy r rated movies without any problems
but like 2 years ago I couldn’t even buy a pg-13 movie
is this premature aging
oh btw i just turned 14
Okay, now that I’ve got your attention, can you please give me links to other websites that say this? Or just tell me your opinion? Don’t go into a rant if your opinion contradicts the above statement, just say you don’t agree. If you do agree with the above statement, please explain why.
I have heard this before, but is it really true? I know sleeping in makeup can cause breakouts… but aging?
Put links to any websitesif you found it there. I just want to read a different take on the issues. Thanks!
I read online that Proactiv (which I’ve been using for several months) exfoliates the skin daily, leaving it vulnerable to premature aging. I read this is because it takes off the layer of skin protecting my face and exposes new skin to the elements. Is this true???? Because I’m 26 and would rather have a pimple than look 70 when I’m 50.
I am 16 and was wondering if I used anti aging make up or any other wrinkle linked cosmetic would it cause me to age faster? This is out of curiosity
I’ve heard if you use this kind of stuff at an early age it will cause you to age faster.
I used to get a lot of sun in my younger years, I fear premature skin aging will appear in 10+ years. What all can I do to reduce this terrible occurance before it shows up? I’m really good about protecting my skin now(SPF 70 and umbrellas), I exfoliate regularly,I take antioxidants, what else can I do? what products could I use?
i was just wondering if having/popping it could cause skin to age prematurely? cheers
Ok well I’m confused, if you dont get enough sunlight, you dont get enough vitamin d, but if you DO get sunlight, it causes premature aging. Now I really dont know what to do, I don’t want my skin to age and look older but I dont want to be deficient. Would getting about 5 minutes of sun per day cause any premature aging?
I cant wear sunscreen everywhere I go. It makes my face look shiny at work. I have tried it before and I had ATLEAST 50 people ask me "why do you have sun screen on? It makes your face shine too much"

I mean I can’t exactly walk around with SPF moisturiser in it or exfoliate or wear mud mask weekly;
