My son doesn’t seem to like elderly people. How do I teach him to respect them?
My son is only 3 but lately I have noticed that when the elderly stop and fuss over him or say hi, he ignores them. He doesn’t do this to any other age group. I don’t have any family, so maybe he is just not used to them? Advice?

LOL! My 3 year old son is the same way! He kinda has an excuse, though. He is autistic.
There is an elderly gentleman who likes to take walks in the evenings. Sometimes we pass him as we are pushing the kids in the stroller. Wyatt, for some reason, absolutely HATES this guy!!! It’s pretty funny, really.
One time the guy accidentally made eye contact with my son. BIG MISTAKE!!! My son started screaming like Damian in The Omen when he went to church, and was inconsolable the whole walk back to our house.
In the earlier part of the year my family and I were headed into a restaurant. There was an elderly gentleman standing on the side walk smoking a cigarette W A Y down at the end of the restaurant. As we went to step up on the sidewalk, Wyatt froze and refused to take one more step. He placed his hands over his ears and just stood there glancing over at the man once in a while. I had my hands full carrying my daughter. I tried to coax Wyatt up on the sidewalk and to walk in the restaurant. No amount of coaxing would get that boy moving! I ended up having to pick him up and carry him in while he was screaming!
As soon as we stepped inside the restaurant, he stopped screaming and was a happy little boy again!
I have no idea why some kids are afraid of elderly people. I think it will pass though. Just treat the elderly as you treat everyone else and your son will soon catch on.
Boys dont like being fussed over in general. Just tell him that they’ve lived a long time and done a lot for us, and that its good manners to smile and show respect. I dont have much family either so when people hug my kids they get kind of weird about it too if its not me. He’ll be fine the more he’s around people.
