How old are you?
Does old age run in the family?
Do you find humor in getting old?
Is your spouse still living?
Can you function independently?
How many children & grandchildren do you have?
Has life been good to you?
What are your favorite memories?
Who was your favorite singer & actor?
How long have you been married?
What is your favorite time of year?
Does your family visit you often?
Are you able to exercise?
Do you have any favorite television shows?
Do you still drive?
Do you take lots of medications?
Do you have faith in God?
What are your questions for? If they are for a school project you might ask:
What specific health issues has aging brought you?
How has the economic downturn affected your life?
What has been the most important event of your life?
What is the biggest technological change you’ve seen in your life?
What is the most important thing you have learned?
Who has had the greatest impact on your life?
These are just a few questions that will help you get started. Good luck.
Why not visit a local seniors’ residence/retirement lodge? There’d be plenty of opportunities to talk to seniors at those locations. You could also try care centres, although quite often it’s difficult (but certainly not impossible) to find seniors who can communicate at the appropriate level. In fact some care centres welcome visitors who can spend a little time with the residents, some of whom rarely have visitors (sadly, even family members seem to avoid care centres).
Check and see if there isn’t a Senior Citizens civic organization in your town. These are people that have lived it and love to talk about it to interested young people.
If you push them they will just fade you out . Be respectful and use good manners. Mam and Sir. Unless told different.
Find people that are still active and keeping up with the world. Not old people in nursing homes that have either forgotten or they are bitter.
I can give you two dozen questions not to ask.
