What services are available in Maryland for the elderly/disabled? ?
I am in Hagerstown. My BF is taking care of his elderly disabled mom. She is in a wheelchair. I tried to call the Dept of Aging (just got a recording) and the MIHI group (no one answered). I am looking for programs they can turn to for help. She has no insurance, and they cannot afford assisted living or a nursing home.

I didn’t see a Department of Aging at this site, however.

You might try contacting the PIO (Public Information Office of Washington County. They issue the press releases and will usually be glad to assist in directing you to the proper department or organization.

11.10% of Washington County is 65 years or older. There should be some organizations to address their issues.
Check the site below – scroll down the list for agencies:

or check this page which has the contacts within the Department of Aging: http://www.msa.md.gov/msa/mdmanual/10da/html/da.html
Although you already indicated that you didn’t have much luck with Maryland gov, don’t give up. Leave a clear message with callback numbers first. Send an email higher up indicating the response you received. That will usually have a decided trickle down effect.
You might also check with religious organizations and with the Red Cross. They will often have emergency referral information.
Good luck.
