Why are there no middle aged or elderly avatars?
All the avatars I see listed look like preteens and teens. Some MIGHT pass for twentysomethings but nothing beyond that.

It’s aimed at young people. Just make your person look middle aged by dressign them in old-looking clothes. Most middle-aged people wear ugly clothes, so why bother making them look cool? or just find a pic of an old person online and use that.
My avatar sorta looks like me, but it’s so stereotyped at the types of clothes people wear. I would never wear some of the clothes they have. They want people to look pretty. I mean, I don’t have perfect skin and Im not this thin, but we do the best we can
Because we are visual creatures and would not answer someone who’s avatar looked like our grandmother. My avatar looks about my age though.

i don’t have the answer, but i join you in your question. on a forum a few weeks back, someone claiming to work for Yahoo said that yahoo does not allow ugly avatars. now how do you suppose that makes older people feel, that yahoo can’t come up with someone that looks like them because the yahoo designers consider it ugly? well i never!…. GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DAM KIDS!

The person who designed them was probably instructed tomake avatars that cater to the majority that uses Yahoo..
That could be a good idea to campaign for /petition the Yahoo avatars team. A lot of elderly are online and they would certainly appreciate consideration.
Personally I think most people feel more comfortable with a young looking avatar. It helps give the feeling that everyone in the community is still young, or at least young at heart. Thus, their ideas and opinions are given just as much wight as that of other people.
Imagine if a 14 year old could get a custom 60 year-old avatar and suddenly pester people with it…like giving out bogus advice or doing social engineering. Yikes. At least here, people show their maturity and age through their actions and answers.
Besides, you could always post a real photo of yourself anyway.
